Happy
![]() To celebrate my birthday, I made a cheesecake, Richard made me a decadent prime rib dinner, and he agreed (with trepidation) to be my slave for the day to start a new project in the garden that I’ve been plotting for a while – which required some help from the Bobcat. This weekend is also the 7th anniversary of moving into this house, so we did the usual bit of reminiscing about all we’ve accomplished in seven years. We’ve got a reno project coming up in a month or so that will be another belated birthday present, and carry on our habit of renovating indoors in the fall once the weather chills, but first I have my gardening to finish. Here’s a look at what I’m up to. It was a great birthday, and I’m about to go outside and continue with my project. |

![]() And here was our dinner, after a good 5 hours moving rocks. I was so tired that I couldn't be bothered getting out my piping bag to decorate my cake, I just winged it with a spoon; the chocolate looked a mess, but it was tasty! Richard knows exactly how to indulge me on my birthday, thank you! Thanks everyone who phoned or e-mailed with birthday wishes. I’m hoping it will be a great year. |

Inspired by the death of a rose bush.
Enter Richard with the Bobcat and toothed bucket.
Goodbye to the dead shrub and quackgrass first.
It'll match the bed on the west end of the driveway.
We collected rocks from the pile beneath the apricot tree.
Here they are in place, after much deliberation.
The centre rock landed that way. Richard voted it stay.
No big rocks left, so I’ll continue today with smaller ones.

The cake looks gorgeous and everything looks delicious! Glad your birthday was great.
The rocks in the new bed look fabulous, a great setting for your plantings. I wish we could move our rhododendrons with a little bobcat like that but I don't think it would navigate our steps and rock walls.

Hey, happy belated birthday! UGH - I have been so overwhelmed by this move & all that's happened in the last week that birthdays etc. have totally slipped my mind...I also missed my SIL's on Sept. 30th. Hope you'll forgive me for not calling!
I'm glad you're doing OK and that things are moving along at home with all the projects. The cheesecake looks amazing as does dinner. Are you doing the big Thanksgiving turkey today or tomorrow?
I sent you an email with my new contact information. Oh, and BTW, my PC broke during my move so guess what? I now have a fracking humungous iMac that my housemate just happened to not need anymore (she just purchased herself a bigger, better, newer one). I'm still getting used to it but I like it so far.
Anyway, love you lots & hopefully I'll get my act together soon to give you a call. Big hugs to you & Richard!

Thank you both! The cheesecake was divine if I do say so myself, and I've had two more little slices today. My favourite food. We've had our decadent meal for the weekend, no turkey today or tomorrow. I prefer Richard's turkey dinner with all the trimmings - including sweet potato pie, mashed potatoes, and his cranberry-pecan dressing (aka stuffing) - but those are high-carb foods I'm not eating right now, so I'm fine waiting for Christmas and enjoying my much more favourite prime rib and low-carb cheesecake instead.
WC, I will make sure to call you! I want to hear all about the move and figure out where you landed exactly, so we can visit the next time we're going to the coast - next month maybe, although we've got a reno that will chew up the weekends. Never enough hours in the day anymore, why is that? Congrats on getting the iMac. Mine is three years old this weekend, a former birthday present from Richard, and still keeping up with me. It's this blog that's very out of date, still using the same software I started with 7 years ago, and there are so much easier ways of doing it now! I'm so sick of html coding, bleh. Another item on my long to-do list.
I'm just waiting for Richard to come back from a dump run and help me with my rock bed. I ran into a snag - even the rocks that seem small compared to what we placed yesterday are still too heavy for me to move! Aargh. Aha, he's home, and promised to help, so I'm going back out. A lovely fall day, I spent half an hour with the camera just photographing trees and late flowers while I was waiting for him.
Hope it's as lovely a weekend on the coast! Happy Thanksgiving! x
